FAQS
Packrafts, also known as backpack boats, are lightweight inflatable boats made from TPU that are impressively light and pack down small. This makes them easy to transport and allows you to combine paddling with other types of sport and transportation. The sport of packrafting offers you completely new freedoms and possibilities that would be unthinkable with hard boats.
Bikerafting combines packrafting with cycling. The bike is attached to the bow of the packraft and usually paddled downstream. The way back is then comfortably covered by bike. The high load capacity and stability of the packrafts even allow a combination of cycling and light whitewater paddling.
Several factors play a role in choosing the right packraft model. First you should estimate the intended use as well as possible. To do this, it is recommended to answer the following questions:
- Do I want a one-person packraft or a two-person packraft?
-Will I be traveling on calm waters, or will I be tempted by a wild ride on the white water river or the surf? Or maybe even both?
-Do I want to have the opportunity to go bike rafting or transport a lot of luggage?
Of course, the paddler's own height and weight also play a role in the model selection. In particular, you should measure the leg length, from rump to heel, and compare it with the inside length of our packraft models. In the following table we give you a small overview of the special features and areas of application of the models we offer:

When we started packrafting years ago, we were amazed at how robust the materials were. A lot has happened since then and today's materials are even more stable.
The TPU packrafts can easily handle even heavy contact with the ground. The switch to TPU material coated on one side also makes the tubes and base more tear-resistant than ever before.
Almost any damage to packrafts can be easily repaired. This is due to the special properties of the TPU material. Depending on the damage and needs, packrafts can be glued, sewn, resealed or thermowelded. Valves and other parts can also be replaced.
Many of these jobs can even be carried out yourself with a little manual skill. If our products are damaged, worn or need repairs, we will be happy to advise you.
We also havespare parts, TPU glue and TPU fabricavailable by the meter in stock and are happy to provide you with the right material for every repair job.
Thanks to their tipping stability, high load capacity and easy handling, packrafts are a very good choice for getting started in paddling. In the event of a capsize, re-entry is also significantly easier than with kayaks or canoes, as the packrafts always have enough buoyancy due to their large volume and remain on the surface.
In addition, their small pack size means they fit in any conventional car or camping van. which makes them ideal holiday boats.
However, you should always treat the element of water with respect and always wear the appropriate protective equipment. Don't let the easy operation and tipping stability of the packrafts tempt you to take unnecessary risks and always be informed about the paddling section and possible dangers of the route.
If you have any questions about the topic. Safety on the water We are of course happy to advise you at any time and introduce you to many < a href="/en/pages/fluss descriptions" title="River descriptions">Descriptions available for paddling sections.
The packrafts can be used without restrictions in salt water or chlorinated pools. In this case, however, you should make sure to rinse off any salt or chlorine residue thoroughly before storing. You can find all other tips for care and use under the instructions section.
We recommend using the inflation bag for inflation and applying the residual pressure to the packraft by mouth. This procedure ensures sufficient pressure in the tubes and protects the material. If a pressure pump is used for inflation, we recommend not exceeding a pressure of 0.08 bar or 1.2 PSI.
Many manufacturers have now installed this as standard in all models.
However, we only deliberately use it in some models. For most customers in Europe, a TZIP storage system is not automatically worthwhile. The following points should be noted:
A TZIP is maintenance-intensive, sensitive to dirt and, as a result, often leaks. An exchange cannot usually be carried out at home. We therefore only recommend the TZIP storage system for longer tours and expeditions, as normal luggage for a weekend trip can easily be stored on the bow of the packraft. There it does not restrict the driving characteristics and is accessible without letting air out of the packraft.
